I'm awake again.

Well it has been a long time since I posted on this site. I've been in a very unproductive period in my life so this is not the only thing that fell by the wayside. Fortunately, I just visited my brother yesterday and that helped me decide to try to get out of the work-sleep-game play routine I have found myself in.
I don't know what I will be doing, but it feels like starting to do some posts will help. If nothing else it will be a good record for me to look back on in the future. At best it may help others who find themselves in a rut and want to get out.
Writing thoughts out seems to open a different perspective on things that can help focus ideas. I am hoping that this page will do that in this case.

A Point of Focus

Welcome to the last day of November. Next thing you know it will be Christmas!
Well, I did mention that I would be talking about some things that are important to me on this site so it is time to do so. This is probably the most important thing to me as it effects all other things in life. It is really just a different way to look at the same thing said in many different ways. Since it is different it takes a little explaining.
As anyone who thinks about it knows there are far too many things in this world for someone to see them all. From places to people, from things to situations, even sitting in one place you can not see everything. Some things are right in front of you and are easy to see. Some things are in front of you but not directly and require a change of focus to see. Other things are behind you and cannot be seen without turning around.
Even if you are looking at something you will not see everything about it. Looking at someone, you cannot see everything about them. It really depends on what you set your focus on. Our choice of focus is what determines what we see.
I have met people who always focus on the negative aspects of the world and the people in it. These people are not usually fun to be around. I have also met people who strive to look at the positive things in the world and in people. These people are a lot more fun to be with. They can both look at the same person or object, but see completely different things.
Since there are way too many things to see we actually make our own world by choosing what we focus on. To some the world is full of wonder and excitement, but to others it is full of pain and disappointment. It all depends on what you focus on.
You can even turn your back on some things, situations, or people. I believe this is one meaning of the saying, "Get thee behind me, Satan." Putting something behind you is to completely put it out of your world. This works well in many situation.
So I now strive to focus on the positive things in life, the positive aspects of anything, anyone, or any situation. It has made me a lot happier and I think a lot more fun to be around. Of course it is a work in progress and I do not always succeed, but like everyone else I am a work in progress.
I hope this means something to someone else and helps make your world a little bit better.

Post Thanksgiving Blues

Happy Monday all. Its just another day in paradise. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are easing back into the work world smoothly. The only bad part of a holiday is when it ends.
I always feed better if I concentrate on the positives. After all, in today's world it is a great thing to have a job to go back to. All of us in that position should thank God that we have a chance to complain about going back to work. It is a nice thing to have a job to complain about.
Speaking of the state of the world, it is almost Christmas. I still haven't decided what to do to help the less fortunate in this season. I usually like to get a present for a kid who wouldn't get one otherwise. Does anyone have a favorite organization that fits the bill? If so, then send me a comment and I will look into it. Otherwise I will need to start searching the inter-tubes soon to be sure and get it done in time.
Anyway, I am still learning about what I can do with this site. I learned how to link to other sites so be sure to check the bottom of the page. I also got my first follower! Whoopee! Now I need to adapt a short story for posting and I need to do my first in the Lazy Man's Recipe series.
Anyway, it is time to get ready for work, thank God for that.

Hello World

When I was learning to program computers years ago that was always the first project. Create a program that would print out the words, "Hello World". So that is the first thing I wanted to say on my new blog.
I spent a lot of time thinking about what I wanted to do with this blog space. Should I use it to tell stories, to pontificate, to discuss any one of a million different things, to post recipes, or what? Well, I finally decided that I would have a lot of different things on my blog so that explains the name, Random Rap.
There is no intention to make this a meaningful blog, but I will probably discuss some things that have real meaning to me. Of course, I realize that they will probably not have a lot of meaning to others. I just hope that at least one or two things have some interest to someone. If not, well, so what. It is just fun to put them out on the inter-tubes and see what happens.
As we all know, there is plenty of meaningless stuff out there in the ether. If this turns out to just be more of the same then that's okay. At least it will have plenty of company. We cannot all create meaning in this world. It is enough to create what we can and add it to the sum total of Mankind's creations.
Well, I'm going to explore what I can do on this site and I will come back with more stuff later.
